The anemometer is located 12 feet above an 80 foot silo. The site has good wind exposure from all directions. With the exception of another silo, there is unimpeeded wind from all directions.
This site was established in March of 2006. After approximately 3 days of operation the anemometer was damaged by lightning. One of the anemometer channels on the data logger was destroyed. Approximately 6 days later the site was serviced and the anemometer was moved to the second channel. Over the summer of 2006 the wind data logger was repeatedly damaged by cattle and possibly machinery. This caused numerous outages and required constant repair.
Wind data logger is located at the base of the silo. It is powered with 120 volt AC power and has a battery backup capable of powering it for approximately 20 days.
